Australian Visa Eligibility and Application Process

WorldMUN participants are eligible to apply for Australian visas as Visitors or Tourists. Note that it is the responsibility of individual participants at WorldMUN to obtain necessary visas prior to entering Australia. Additionally, we advise participants to ensure that their passports are valid for the period of stay that they are applying for.

Delegates are encouraged to use the 'Visa Wizard' which helps identify the visa to suit your specific circumstances. Simply enter the exact requirements (such as country of nationality, date of birth, etc), and it will generate a detailed list of the best kind of visa for you as well as the various requirements for obtaining that visa.

Australia has three kinds of visitor visas. Additional information, including countries eligible to apply for each, is available below.

If you have any further questions, please see the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship website here, or contact our Hospitality team at hospitality@worldmun.org.

  • eVisitors (Subclass 651) - An electronically stored authority for visits to Australia for tourism or business purposes for up to three months. Available to passport holders from the European Union and a number of other European countries, who are outside Australia.
  • ETA (Visitor) (Subclass 976) - An electronically stored authority for short-term visits to Australia of up to 3 months. Available to passport holders from a number of countries and regions, who are outside Australia.
  • Tourist visa (Subclass 676) - A temporary visa allowing a stay in Australia of up to three or six or 12 months. Applicants can apply from both outside and in Australia. Some tourists are eligible to lodge an online application for an e676 Tourist visa.
A more detailed description of each visa type is available here.

Please also be aware of any customs requirements before travel. A comprehensive guide is available here.

Difference/Similarities between ETA Visa and eVisitor Visa

Neither can be extended whilst in Australia. If desired, applicants can apply for a new visa once their existing visas have expired

Neither will receive stamps/labels in applicants' passport

No real difference in benefits other than $20 service fee for ETA visa and eligible countries.

All visas allow for travel up to 3 months within Australia.

In general terms, you may be able to work as a volunteer whilst on these visas (including tourist visa) if:

·       the work involved would not otherwise be undertaken, in return for wages, by an Australian resident

·       the work is genuinely voluntary and that no remuneration is received in return for the activities.

Note: It is acceptable, under the conditions of the Tourist visa, to receive meals and accommodation or reimbursement for out-of-pocket living expenses in return for voluntary work.

Tourist Visa

All applicants must meet certain eligibility requirements such as health, financial, and character requirements. See the following link for more information: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/676/eligibility.htm.
