Hello WorldMUNers!

Hello WorldMUNers! As Secretary-General of the twenty-second session of World Model United Nations, I am honored and excited to welcome you to WorldMUN 2013 in Melbourne, Australia. For those of you who are new to WorldMUN, the conference is far more than just an ordinary Model UN simulation. WorldMUN brings together 2,000 brilliant young minds from across 65 nations to engage in the highest levels of global debate, cultural exchange, and social bonding. And for our returning veterans -- thank you for coming back year after year to test the limits of diplomacy and cooperation; I am so excited to reunite with you in March!

At Harvard, I am a senior studying Government and Economics. I was born in tropical Singapore and grew up in Edison, New Jersey, where I first discovered my love for Model UN. Eleven years of competing and staffing later, I could not be happier to make WorldMUN 2013 the capstone of my Model UN experience.

As always, if you have any questions or need assistance while registering for WorldMUN, please reach out to us. I look forward to getting to know all of you in the months ahead -- WorldMUN is an extraordinary experience created not only by the Harvard and Host teams, but by the 2,000 delegates and 300 delegates who dedicate months of training to prepare for the conference. I am deeply honored to welcome you to WorldMUN 2013 Melbourne, and I look forward to making this year's WorldMUN the best one yet!

Director-General: Kevin Liu Huang

Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and Friends of WorldMUN,

It is my pleasure to serve as the Director-General for Harvard World Model United Nations 2013! My name is Kevin Liu Huang, and I am proud that my final Model UN conference coincides with WorldMUN's first time Down Under. This conference is so meaningful for me because of the WorldMUN Spirit and the focus on social events and social impact. We are constantly innovating and seeking out ways to bring people together, to learn from each other and to bring our collective experiences to bear upon the world's most pressing issues. This conference is elite for a reason: it is radically different than any other conference in existence.

Outside of the committee room, I will be a senior (wow) studying a joint degree in International Relations and Statistics, with a special interest in nuclear affairs, state failure, and terrorism. When I am not busy assailing people for failing to use the Oxford comma, I am spending my time competing in Ballroom and Latin dancing or playing sports, especially tennis. Travel is a special passion of mine, and it is my life goal to visit every single country at least once during my life!

Though I am chiefly in charge of helping to oversee conference logistics, administrative and financial duties, and the conference budget, I am really interested in meeting all of you and sharing in the WorldMUN Spirit. Please feel free to get in touch with me for any reason whatsoever. Welcome to WorldMUN!

Under-Secretary General of the General Assembly: Scott S. Yu

Dear future leaders of the world,

Welcome to WorldMUN 2013! My name is Scott Yu, and I am honored to serve as the Under-Secretary-General of the General Assembly for this remarkable conference. Last year was my first WorldMUN, but the extraordinary experience made me vow to keep coming back.

I am a rising junior at Harvard University, tentatively pursuing a degree in Applied Math with a focus on theoretical market design. On campus, I am an active member of Global Platinum Securities, an intercollegiate student-run investment company. I am also a returning writing/public speaking mentor for the Harvard-Allston Education Portal, and I have performed and toured with the Harvard Glee Club.

Outside of these organizations, I am an active music composer, producer, and DJ. These activities, along with friends and family, occupy most of my free time. I am looking forward to working with all of you over the next year to create the best MUN experience you will ever have – that is, until the next WorldMUN! Please let me know if you have any questions or if you just want to chat. Looking forward to meeting each and every one of you!

Under-Secretary-General of the Economic and Social Council, Regional Bodies: Benjamin M. Hsu

Hello WorldMUN,

My name is Benjamin Hsu and I am a rising senior at Harvard studying statistics. Serving as the Under-Secretary General of ECOSOC and Regional Bodies at WorldMUN this year, I look forward to seeing you at conference where we will have a combination of the more traditional ECOSOC bodies as well as several innovative committees. I am originally from Hsinchu, Taiwan, one of the best places in the world to live in if you are a genuine lover of food. Though I have been participating in Model UN since my freshman year in high school, WorldMUN has definitely been the climax of my MUN experience. The spirit and passion that people bring is what makes WorldMUN such a phenomenal experience for all of us, and I could not be more excited about sharing an entire week of conference with you. Do not hesitate to reach out to me at any time and I will see you in Melbourne!

Under-Secretary-General of the Specialized Agencies: Michael J. Chilazi

Hey WorldMUNers!

My name is Michael Chilazi, and I have the esteemed privilege of serving as your Under-Secretary-General for the Specialized Agencies at WorldMUN 2013. At Harvard I'm a junior studying Neurobiology with a minor in Global Health and Health Policy and dabble on the side with Arabic. I have been involved in the Model United Nations world since I was a small, helpless twelve year old standing on my tippy toes to reach the podium microphone, but I must say that WorldMUN will be my greatest adventure yet. I absolutely cannot wait to take my love for the SA overseas and spend an unforgettable five days with all of you. If you have a love for fast-paced simulations and for thinking creatively, you have a home in the SA. I am so excited to experience the WorldMUN spirit firsthand and can think of no better place to do it than in beautiful Melbourne. Our journey to Melbourne will also give me the opportunity to put my oft-practiced Australian accent to the test. It's been a long time coming. In my free time, I love playing tennis, reading in nice places, traveling, and teaching myself how to DJ.

So excited to learn and have fun with all of you. Please don't ever hesitate to contact me at sa@worldmun.org if you have any questions or just want to say hey! See you all down under.

Under-Secretary-General Administration: Melisa D. Noriega

Hello!

My name is Melisa Noriega, and I am delighted to be serving as Under-Secretary-General for Administration for Harvard WorldMUN 2013. I could not be more excited to be a part of the Secretariat for this world-renowned conference, as this is my first Secretariat position as well as my first WorldMUN experience. Although I did not participate in Model UN in high school, since coming to college I have found my niche within various Harvard-hosted conferences.

I am currently a sophomore at Harvard College studying biomedical engineering and pursuing pre-medical studies, and during the summer I return home to do astrophysics at the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in the beautiful suburbs of Baltimore, MD. When I’m not studying or doing something MUN-related, you’ll probably find me perusing PubMed articles, and I always have my email open. To that end, please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns you have, or even just to introduce yourself at admin@worldmun.org.

Under-Secretary-General Business: Grace Y. Qi

Welcome Delegates to Australia! I am thrilled to serve as your Under-Secretary-General of Business for the 22nd session of WorldMUN!

My name is Grace Yu Qi and I am a rising junior at Harvard University studying Applied Math-Economics. I was born in Fuzhou, China and moved to the beautiful state of California when I was 5. In high school, I was actively involved with many engineering projects and science teams. On the side note, I am also a self-proclaimed food connoisseur who hopes to be an international food critic so she can eat for a living.

My passion for international relations and government wasn’t fully realized until I came to Harvard and joined Model United Nations. At Harvard, I directed for both HMUN and HNMUN. Last year, I had the pleasure of serving as the Chair of Third Party Actors at WorldMUN Vancouver. In addition to MUN, at Harvard, I also study 2 foreign languages (Spanish and Chinese) and serve as captain for the Asian American Dance Troupe.

In the meantime, don’t hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns. I would love to hear from you before the conference officially begins. I hope you’re excited for WorldMUN 2013 because I definitely am! I cannot wait to meet everyone in Australia!
